Christmas At Mary’s Shelter

Christmas At Mary’s Shelter

Posted by on Dec 20, 2016 in Announcements |

Mary’s Shelter was treated to an amazing Christmas Celebration! Thank you to the Fredericksburg Fire Department and area businesses and donors who participated in the Second Annual Stuff A Stocking Program coordinated by the Fredericksburg Fire Department, benefiting Mary’s Shelter. The Fire Fighters arrived with two ladders trucks piled high with gifts for our Mary’s Shelter family! To pass on all this good cheer was Santa Claus himself! The kids were thrilled to meet Santa and enjoyed hot cocoa, Christmas cookies and fruit!

The day was made even more special with gifts of clothing, gifts cards and laundry items from St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, St. Patrick, Life Point and St. Matthew Churches as well as stockings stuffed by the 2nd graders of Holy Cross Academy!

Our community has embraced these women and their children and their goodness is appreciated by the many residents and former residents of Mary’s Shelter who were the humble recipients of their great generosity! May God bless you all and may you have a Happy and Holy Christmas Season!

Mary’s Shelter is thrilled to announce…

Star Parker as the Keynote Speaker at our
10th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser
August 13, 2016

Star Parker is the founder and president of CURE, the Center for Urban Renewal & Education, a public policy think tank that promotes market-based solutions to fight poverty.  After consulting on federal Welfare Reform in the mid-90s, she founded UrbanCure to bring new ideas to policy discussions on how to transition America’s poor from government dependency. Before involvement in social activism, Ms. Parker had seven years of first-hand experience in the grip of welfare dependency.

Ms. Parker has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and International Business from Woodbury University and has received numerous awards and commendations for her work on public policy issues.  She regularly consults with both federal and state legislators on market-based strategies to fight poverty; she has spoken at more than 190 colleges and universities about anti-poverty initiatives; she has authored several books; and she is a nationally-syndicated columnist with Morris Communication Group. Ms. Parker’s staunch pro-life convictions and anti-poverty activism go hand-in-hand with the mission of Mary’s Shelter.  We are honored and excited to have Ms. Parker share her experience and vision with us.
