We Were Delighted To Welcome Bishop Burbidge

Posted by on May 11, 2017 in Announcements |

We are thrilled to share with you photos from this past Saturday’s blessing of our new homes and office space. We were delighted to welcome Bishop Burbidge, kindly supported by Father’s Wagner, Mosimann, Cummings, Rooney, and Lundberg. Sister Susan Louise, Sister Frances Carol and Sister Miriam Elizabeth, our Oblate Sisters, were also on hand to celebrate this beautiful occasion, as were so many members of our community who have supported this ministry with gifts of time, service and financial contributions. Mark Doherty, Jeremy McCommons, and Marie Jessup of MacDoc Property Management and their families were also there to help us celebrate. It is through their generosity that we are in these beautiful new spaces. We also are grateful to David Bereit for setting up his sound system for our big day and to the 8th Graders at Holy Cross Academy for raising funds for outdoor toys, gardening supplies and a beautiful statue of the Blessed Mother. And finally, we’d like to thank the students at The Summit Academy for volunteering endless hours helping us get the homes ready for new residents and for helping with the blessing. What an awesome group of kids!
We now have a real office space and gorgeous apartments and homes to welcome those women who have chosen life for their unborn child. At Mary’s Shelter there is a sanctuary to guide, support and to encourage them to a brighter future. As we receive more photos, we will post them on our website.

Thanks for your continued support of this beautiful pro-life ministry.
May God continue to bless you!

Mary’s Shelter is thrilled to announce…

Star Parker as the Keynote Speaker at our
10th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser
August 13, 2016

128201ea-b354-478d-8165-944b5d892784

Star Parker is the founder and president of CURE, the Center for Urban Renewal & Education, a public policy think tank that promotes market-based solutions to fight poverty.  After consulting on federal Welfare Reform in the mid-90s, she founded UrbanCure to bring new ideas to policy discussions on how to transition America’s poor from government dependency. Before involvement in social activism, Ms. Parker had seven years of first-hand experience in the grip of welfare dependency.

Ms. Parker has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and International Business from Woodbury University and has received numerous awards and commendations for her work on public policy issues.  She regularly consults with both federal and state legislators on market-based strategies to fight poverty; she has spoken at more than 190 colleges and universities about anti-poverty initiatives; she has authored several books; and she is a nationally-syndicated columnist with Morris Communication Group. Ms. Parker’s staunch pro-life convictions and anti-poverty activism go hand-in-hand with the mission of Mary’s Shelter.  We are honored and excited to have Ms. Parker share her experience and vision with us.
